Denmark Became First in Europe in Organic Products Market

The Organic Agriculture Research Institute (FiBL) and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) published a 340-page “World of Organic Agriculture – Statistics and Emerging Trends 2021” report covering 2019 data. According to the report, organic farming is done in 187 countries and it is estimated that over 3 million farmers are doing organic farming. Global organic farming areas increased by 1.6 percent in 2019 to 72.3 million hectares; The global organic food market has exceeded 106 billion Euros.

The annual organic food expenditure per person in the world is at the level of 15 Euros. The top three countries with the highest per capita spending on organic food are Denmark, Switzerland and Luxembourg. In 2019, organic product expenditure per capita in Denmark was 344 Euros, and the organic product market share was 12.1 percent. Switzerland ranks second with 338 Euros per capita organic product spending, while Luxembourg is third with 265 Euros.
